The Afua Sarpong Foundation
Launched on the 31st of January 2019, the pre-eclampsia initiative is setup to create awareness about the condition. Pre-eclampsia is a pregnancy induced hypertension and it is one the leading cause of maternity mortality in Ghana.
The overall goal of the project is to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality due to hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (pre-eclampsia) by creating public awareness, improving care and providing support to pregnant women in Ghana.
The aim of this initiative is to educate all women, especially pregnant women on the risks of preeclampsia and how to better manage the condition.

Objectives of this initiative
- Equip pregnant women, potential mothers in the 16 different regions in Ghana with knowledge on the risks, signs and symptoms, control and prevention of complications associated with pre-eclampsia.
- Support various maternal homes and hospitals in the 16 different regions in Ghana to embark on intensive education programs about pre-eclampsia.
- Equip Primary Healthcare centers in the 16 different regions in Ghana with educational materials and tools including audio visuals to aid continuous education on preeclampsia.
- Ensure pregnant women in the 16 different regions in Ghana own or have access to a digital sphygmomanometer (blood pressure machine), for regular monitoring of blood pressure.
- Provide support and care to pregnant women with pre-eclampsia
